Foreword of the President
Efficiency and saving – these are key words for the present business environmentAlthough the Central Bank has diminished the interest rate at the beginning of the year, people’s appetite for investment is still low. The uncertainty that characterizes many markets has determined a rise in saving money to the detriment of consumption. As a consequence, in order to keep the merchandise unpacking structures profitable, it is necessary to continue the drastic streamlining of upstream processes. The standardization of logistic processes is an essential condition for obtaining the necessary cost reductions.
We at GS1 have felt this economic phenomenon but had the satisfaction of helping in some manner our member companies in the field of economic survival techniques. More precisely, we identified the companies’ need for drastic cost reductions in all the functional departments and we offered consultancy, training and assistance in implementation to all the members that understood that the GS1 standards are mainly meant for this purpose.
The GS1 “edifice” is sustained by four pillars, two traditional ones: the barcodes and the electronic data interchange (EDI) and two more recent ones: Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) and the electronic product code (EPC). All four pillars together represent a set of standards that allow an important reduction of operational logistic costs.
Because time is permanently contracting for everybody, the “online” relationship with GS1 is, at the moment, the most used by member companies, the www.gs1.ro portal answering the majority of their questions.
Starting 2011, GS1 Romania offers the community of member companies an exceptional product, in Romanian: GS1 e-Learn, an interactive distance learning tool which is a real help for those who are stalled from their formation activity by time or distance.
The GS1 Romanian Team, keeping standards and the latest solutions available for the national business environment, remains permanently connected to the Romanian economic realities and to the reaction of the market in order to sustain a viable organization that offers technological support.
